Standing Orders

Standing Orders are the rules by which Parish and Town Councils operate.

They are a consistent and logical system or method of working to ensure the delivery of transparent, efficient and effective decision making. 

The Standing Orders cover:

• Holding an annual meeting;
• Holding meetings generally;
• Location of meetings;
• Public Notice of meetings;
• Service of summons on councillors to attend meetings;
• The quorum which is no less than 3;

• Voting by show of hands;

• Arrangement for votes to be recorded;
• Decisions to be by majority vote;
• Provision for casting vote;
• Recording attendance;
• Provisions for minutes.
